Biography
Karen Eliza practices the art of the body/mind/space connection. She enjoys working in the fields of interior design, meditation, and improvisational dance. She recently received a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from CIDA-accredited Meredith College, and has experience working on both residential and commercial projects as a design consultant. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance from UNCSA (2004), and has had the privilege of living, performing, and choreographing in vibrant cities such as New York City and Berlin, Germany. Beyond the arts and design, she has also been certified as a personal fitness trainer, meditation teacher, and instructor in the art of presence. Currently, she is an aspiring commercial Interior Designer and is also available as a meditation & somatic awareness consultant.
After earning her BFA degree in 2004, Karen relocated to New York City, where she flourished as a contemporary dancer for nearly ten years. She performed with notable artists such as Neta Pulvermacher, Rebecca Lazier and Jin Ju Song-Begin. Her own choreography, has been performed on stages around NYC and internationally. In 2014, she moved to Berlin, where she dedicated herself to teaching Contemporary dance and Improvisation, while also expanding her own improvisation techniques and experiences. Karen delved into the realms of improvisation and site-specific dance, avant garde disciplines that have enriched her sense of presence, playful exploration, and heightened body & spatial awareness.
During her years living in Berlin, Germany, from 2014 to 2018, Karen discovered how inspired interior design can profoundly transform one’s mood, experience, and overall well-being. The city, with its unique spaces and minimalistic yet captivating aesthetic, naturally draws you in and encourages free expression.
In recent years, Karen Eliza has carved out a new life path by earning a bachelor’s degree in interior design, while working as a part-time design consultant for a commercial health and wellness interior design firm based in Raleigh, NC. Karen’s design philosophy is a delicate tapestry woven from her travels and extensive background in movement, music, and choreography. She carefully considers the sensory impact of each environment she creates, aiming to craft spaces that not only look beautiful but also feel nurturing and relaxing. Emphasizing the creation of environments that echo nature’s tranquility with modern touches and artistic elements to inspire and delight.
